Global warming deniers are the new Holocaust deniers. In the past 50 years we have wreaked havoc on our planet all in the name of agricultural, technology and industrial revolutions. The growth of transportation, the world's enormous appetite for the Western diet and the increase 1000 fold for consumer goods has pushed our natural resources output right off the cliff.
Call it what you want; modernization, corporate achievements, advancements in farming, world growth.....The bottom line is "devastation" of our land, water and the air we breath. 1000's of animal and plant species that has managed to survive millions of years earth is in jeopardy of extinction or has already been wiped out by man's greedy domination and careless denial that you cannot take from our planet without giving back.
We have been warned by the science community of the twenty-first century and some of our greatest environmentalist like Robert Redford, Al Gore, David Rockefeller, and Brad Sewell have all been villainized by the right wing conservative movement as quacks, opportunist and conspirators.
The environmentalism movement has been taken over by politics and the media. Science still plays a substantial role, but policies are often based upon popular opinion rather than the reasoned weighing of various scientific factors. Despite the honest commitment that modern-day environmentalists have to making the world a better place, implementing their ideas without first engaging in robust scientific discussions has had disastrous results.
At the moment around 252 million people are affected by "natural disasters" - not including earthquakes, volcanic eruptions and other emergencies unrelated to the weather. However this number is set to increase by 54 per cent to 375 million every year by 2015 as the number of people living in vulnerable areas like Bangladesh increases and levels of poverty mean more die. Densely populated slums in coastal cities like Mumbai, mean millions more people are living in flimsy shacks and are at risk of water-born disease caused by rising temperatures.
Scientists outline dramatic evidence that global warming threatens the planet in a new and unexpected way – by triggering earthquakes, tsunamis, avalanches and volcanic eruptions. It is profoundly alarming that a Presidential candidate in the United States of America and all his Republican Conservative supporters define Global Warming as a "Liberal conspiracy." What do you expect from people that call evolution a fallacy and anti-religion......It is unfathomable that grown men in 2012 actually subscribe to these insane theories. What is even more dangerous is that they are within a heartbeat of being President of the United States. These same Republicans advocate wars, elitist superiority and class domination of the poor and middle class.....
Reports by international groups of researchers that were presented at a London conference last year will show that climate change, caused by rising outputs of carbon dioxide from vehicles, factories and power stations, will not only affect the atmosphere and the sea but will alter the geology of the Earth.
Melting glaciers will set off avalanches, floods and mud flows in the Alps and other mountain ranges; torrential rainfall around the world is likely to cause widespread erosion; while disappearing Greenland and Antarctic ice sheets threaten to let loose underwater landslides, triggering tsunamis world wide. At the same time the disappearance of ice caps will change the pressures acting on the Earth's crust and set off volcanic eruptions across the globe. Life on Earth faces a warm future – and a fiery one.
Not only are the oceans and atmosphere conspiring against us bringing baking temperatures and more powerful storms and floods, but the crust beneath our feet seems likely to join in too. Maybe the Earth is trying to tell us something. Global warming is not just a matter of warmer weather, more floods and stronger hurricanes. It is a wake-up call as global warming affects every aspect of our lives, especially our economy, job market, our food resources, water, the air we breathe and the general psychological tone in our community.
Scientists have found the first unequivocal link between man-made greenhouse gases and a dramatic heating of the Earth's oceans. The researchers - many funded by the US government - have seen what they describe as a "stunning" correlation between a rise in ocean temperature over the past 40 years and pollution of the atmosphere. The study destroys a central argument of global warming skeptics within the Republican party.
